CASSOPOLIS – Prior to a forfeiture hearing in Fourth District Court on Monday, Carol Ann Bowie released ownership of her cats to the Cass County Animal Shelter for disposition.
"We've made contact with individuals that inquired as to whether their cats may have been taken from the Bowie residence," said Pat Fetherston, Cass County's animal control director.
"One individual found her daughter's cat and the cat is back home. Other individuals have looked and didn't find their cats," Fetherston said.
The shelter plans to have some of the cats available for adoption on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 4 and 5.
Individuals seeking to adopt any of these cats should come to the Cass County Animal Shelter at 323 M-62 North, Cassopolis. The shelter reserves the right under the ordinance to refuse adoption. The adoption fee for an unaltered (not spayed or neutered) cat is $25. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a spay/neuter deposit of $26 (in-county resident) or $30 (out-of-county resident). If the animal is spayed or neutered the adoption fee is $30. Regular county spay/neuter discounts will apply for cats adopted.
