NILES – The Apple Festival Grande Parade is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The parade will run its usual route, starting at Second and Sycamore Streets, going up Main Street to Broadway, from Broadway it will take a left on 15th Street and end at the Niles High School Parking lot.
There are 120 units in this year's parade, and spectators can plan on seeing plenty of well-docrated floats, unique costumes, tons of candy and even a few surprises.
Ashley Motuelle and Gina Vangilder were ready were for the parade Thursday evening as the two put on their 1890s attire, which goes along with the theme of their church's float.
Hope Community Church is one of the many units involved with the parade. They went for a "Dixie"-type them, which takes them back in time to the 1800s.
"It's different," Motuelle, a sophomore at Edwardsburg High School, said of her dress.
Motuelle is no stranger to parades, as she admitted she has been in several since she was six years old.
Vangilder, on the other hand, will be riding in her first parade ever and admitted she is excited about it. She's a junior at Niles High School.
"We'll be riding on the float, but I know there are a lot ofpeople involved and a lot will be walking too," Motuelle said.
