Niles volleyball team falls to St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH – The Niles varsity volleyball team dropped its Big 16 West Division opener to host St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
The Lady Vikings fell to the Lady Bears 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18.
"We had a vew bright sports tonight," Niles coach Linda Goodrich said, "Samantha Brawley with defense and serve receive passing. That girl never gives up. We will try to pick up after this loss and get back on track.
"St. Joe really came to play, we struggled to put a bal down all night against such a tough block and quick defense," she added.
Brawley finished the night with 20 digs, while Kate Bourbonnais and Kaylynn Stephenson both finished with four kills.
Niles also got seven digs and 11 assists from Demi Schrader and six digs each from Bourbonnais and Stephenson.
Brittney Wolverton finished the night with three blocks.
Freshmen Volleyball
The Niles freshmen volleyball team defeated host St. Joseph 25-23, 21-25 and 15-7.
"We our undefeated in conference play," Niles coach Tami Williams said. "Our only regular season loss was to powerhouse Mishawaka High and we still are the only team to take a game from them."
Desiree Egmer had 13 good serves and two aces for the Lady Vikings, whoalso got two aces from Morgan Dloughy.
Niles will host its own invitational tournament on Saturday.
In other recent action, Niles defeated Berrien Springs in three games, defeated Mattawan in two games, defeated Dowagiac in two games, finished sixth at the Portage Invitational, lost to Mishawaka and won the Bridgman Invitational.
JV Volleyball
The Lady Vikings were defeated by the Lady Bears in three games Wednesday night.
