NILES – The Brandywine freshmen volleyball team defeated Grand Rapids West Catholic in the finals to capture the Gobles Freshmen Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Bobcats reached the finals by beating Lake Michigan Catholic (21-15, 21-11), Bangor (21-11, 21-10), beating Hopkins (21-12, 21-8) and beating Saugatuck (14-21, 21-12, 15-3).
In the Lake Michigan Catholic match, Lauren Hopper and Allie Harris had six aces, while Brittney Molica and Morgan Smallwood finished with four kills.
Kelsey Prestley and Allie Harris had four kills and eight aces respectively to help lead the Lady Bobcats past Bangor.
Against Hopkins, Harris had eight aces and Smallwood four. Prestly finished with five kills.
Prestley had a team-high 12 kills in the Saugatuck victory, while Harris and Smallwood had seven and four aces.
In the championship match, Prestley led the team with six kills. Molica and Smallwood contributed three kills each.
