BRIDGMAN – Bridgman scored a goal in each half as it defeated visiting Niles Saturday in non-conference soccer action, 2-0.
"We controlled the tempo for the first 15 minutes, but were unable to sustain it," Niles coach Jerry Holtgren said. "Bridgman is a solid team and adjusted to us quickly. We had some good opportunities, but we were unable to convert them while Bridgman capitalized on theirs. Our team knows how to play, they just have been put in the same system that has worked for the last seven years here at Niles. They key to this team's success is going to be finding how to play with passion and excitement. Hopefully, we can find that soon."
The Bees out shot the Vikings 12-6. Niles goalkeeper Zack Bloss had 10 saves.
"Zach Bloss continues to impress me as a first year keeper, he had some good saves today and was vocal as well," Holtgren said. "We have two key defenders out with sprained ankles (Adam Jenkins and Ryan Wyland), so our defenders our being forced to play 80 minutes. When they return within the next couple of weeks they will hopefully make a big impact."
The Vikings (5-4) return to action today as they host Mattawan in a Big 16 Conference West Division match. The game is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m.
