Council considering parade dates

NILES – The 35th annual Apple Festival is scheduled to take place from Thursday, Sept. 28-Sunday, Sept. 30. The annual event will be one of the main topics at tonight's City Council meeting, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
On the list of items to approve, the board will be asked to consider the annual Apple Festival Grande Parade on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and consideration of approving the annual Apple Festival Youth Parade on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 1-2 p.m. and consideration of approving various other requests.
The board will also be asked to approve a request from the Apple Festival Committee to conduct the 2007 Apple Festival event from Sept. 28 through Sept. 30 and consideration of various other requests associated with the festival including a requested donation from the City in the amount of $2,500 for promotion of the event.
Also, Niles High School's annual Homecoming Parade is being requested for Friday, Sept. 21 beginning at 12:50 p.m. It will also be asked to approve various other requests for the parade.
The Niles-Buchanan YMCA is requesting to conduct the 26th Annual Thanksgiving Day Run on Thursday, Nov. 22 beginning at 8:45 a.m.
A consideration of approving a request from Support the Fort, Inc. to conduct the Education Days event in Riverfront Park by the French Paper Dam beginning at noon on Oct. 17 through Oct. 22 and consideration of approving various other requests associated with the event, with the exception of additional trash removal and night security.
The Ferry Street School Resource Center is requesting to hold an Awareness March and Rally on Saturday, Sept, 22nd beginning at 11 a.m. along a route from Eagle Street to N. 15th Street to Ferry Street and concluding at the center.
A consideration of approving a request to grant a time extension of one year to the Niles-Buchanan YMCA to allow for the construction of a recreational trail as identified in Resolution 2005-08/1647 will also be discussed.
The City Council meeting will be held at the council chambers, located at the Niles Fire Station.
