Niles harriers sweep Buchanan

DOWAGIAC – Mark Calhoun and Brett Ortiz finished one-two on Tuesday afternoon at Dowagiac Middle School to lead Niles to a 25-31 victory over Buchanan in boys' cross country.
The Lady Vikings were also victorious over the Bucks as Niles posted a 19-43 victory.
Calhoun posted a time of 17:54 in hot and humid conditions to finish first. Ortiz was nearly a minute behind at 18:35.
Buchanan's Jon Borr finished third with a time of 19:28, while Niles' Justin Kronewitter and Buchanan's Rick Reith finished fourth and fifth respectively with times of 19:32 and 20:42.
Rounding out the Niles finishers were Shawn Calhoun, who was seventh overall (21:28); David Rudolph, who was 11th (25:38); Paul Mooney, who was 12th (30:12) and Caleb Bliss, who was 13th (30:17).
Buchanan's other finishers were John Young, who was sixth (21:17); Josh Tidey, who was eighth (23:32); John Kuntz, who was ninth (24:40) and Allan Morse, who was 10th (24:53).
Sam Brawley and Madie Rodts finished one-two for the Lady Vikings to lead Niles to victory.
Brawley ran a time of 20:49, while Rodts, in only her second race of the season, ran a time of 21:19.
Buchanan's Torrie Eger finished third with a time of 21:48.
Niles grabbed the fourth and fifth spots as Liz VandenHeede and Autumn Grayson posted times of 22:52 and 23:39.
Buchanan's Liz Reith was sixth with a time of 24:35, while Niles' Sarah Tyler and Bree Donahue were seventh and eighth (24:38 and 25:03).
Rounding out the top 10 were Buchanan's Elizabeth Hein and Niles' Nellie Coquillard, who posted times of 25:36 and 27:06 respectively.
Also competing on Tuesday for the Lady Vikings were Ashley Allison (27:22), Allie Hoyt (28:09) and Stephanie Koloff (30:42).
Rounding out the Buchanan finishers were Alley Hemphill (27:17), Chelsea Adolph (28:36), Courtney Adolph (29:02), Ashley Best (31:30), Tabatha Hipshear (32:13), Kristina Leman (33:02), Mary Sieman (39:57) and Kaci Lemon (40:42).
