STEVENSVILLE – Host Lakeshore scored three first half goals and then held off a late Dowagiac rally Monday night.
The Lancers picked up a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Chieftains in a non-conference match.
Lakeshore got a pair goals from Brandon Meilstrup and one from Steve Peters top open up a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Dowagiac (1-1) stormed back in the second half with goals from Jason Hurrle and Kasey Proshwitz.
Hurrle scored in the 47th minute to make it a 3-1 contest. Proshwitz tallied in the 54th minute to cut it to a one-goal advantage for the Lancers.
The Chieftains were unable to get the equalizer over the final 26 minutes of the match.
"We played a very weak passive first half, on our heels," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. "We played as if we were not there to win. The second half was the complete opposite. We played as a team and performed well in all areas."
Chieftains out shot the Lancers 16-11. Dowagiac goalkeeper Art Springsteen was credited with 11 saves.
