Orientation set for Niles students

NILES – Niles community schools will begin the 2007-2008 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 4 with a full day of school.
Students will receive notification of teacher and room assignments at the end of August. Notification as to whether a begindergarten/kindergarten child is to attend morning or afternoon will be made during the week of Aug. 27.
Kindergarten orientation for morning students is Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. Orientation for afternoon students will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 4. Orientation is for students and parents or guardians.
Students attending Northside School who will be in kindergarten, Begindergarten or Special Education will have orientation on Sept. 4.
Kindergarten orientation for morning students will be at 9 a.m. Orientation for afternoon (p.m.) will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 4.
Begindergarten orientation at Northside will be held at 1 p.m.
Special Education orientation for morning students is at 8:30 a.m. Orientation for afternoon students will be at 12:30 p.m.
Head Start and Early Learners orientation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 11, beginning at 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. for morning students and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for afternoon students.
To register a child for preschool, please call 684-1544 if you are interested. Preschool is for students 4 years old.
Orientation for all seventh grade students will be held at Ring Lardner Middle School, in the cafeteria, on Monday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. Seventh grade students with last names beginning A-L will attend on Aug. 20, while seventh grade students with last names beginning M-Z will attend on Aug. 21.
All eighth grade students who are new to the Niles Community School District should attend the Aug. 21 session. If the assigned orientation night needs to be changed, please call the middle school office. For returning eighth graders, schedules will be available at the middle school office on Wednesday, Aug. 29 and Thursday, Aug. 30 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Orientation for all ninth grade students and newly enrolled students will be Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Enrollment forms have been mailed to freshmen and they must bring this form with them to orientation.
Schedules for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and parking permits will be available at the high school office on Wednesday, Aug. 29 and Thursday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Niles Adult Education enrollment begins on Monday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and will continue every Monday through Thursday in the Niles Community Schools Administrative Center, 111 Spruce St. on the second floor. Call 684-4480 (evening) or 684-9554 (daytime) for more information.
All new enrollees in the Niles Community Schools must meet current Michigan Department of Health immunization requirements before they begin school. They should bring a copy of their immunization record when enrolling. Students will be excluded from attendance on the first day of school if immunizations are not up to date.
All elementary buildings are open for registration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. New middle school and high school students may register between these hours at the appropriate building.

The breakfast and lunch program will begin on Sept. 4.
Transportation information, including a list of bus stop schedules, will be in the school calendar.
The first GED test sessions will be Tuesday, Sept. 25, and Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
