EDWARDSBURG – The Edwardsburg Senior League softball All-Stars recently captured the Indiana District 14 championship, which earned them a trip to Indianapolis for the state tournament.
The All-Stars became the first team ever from Edwardsburg Little League, either boys or girls, to win a district title.
Senior softball is consisted of girls from the ages of 13-16 years old. Our team was a very young team compared to all the other teams.
We had three 13-year-olds, Jill Blough, Victoria Hurst and Taylor McGrath; four 14-year-olds, Amelia Breslin, Justine Ely, Kristine Handy, Ashley Wegner; four 15-year-olds, Holly Billings, Kim Billings, Jessica McHenry, Emily Wagoner; and a 16-year-old, Ashley Ward.
Edwardsburg ended up with a record of 2-2 and finished fifth in the whole State of Indiana.
The All-Stars opened play against Martinsville, Ind. and came away with an 8-4 victory.
Edwardsburg defeated Indiana Central 12-1 before losing to Eagledale, Ind. in extra minnings, 3-2. The All-Stars were then eliminated by North Anderson, Ind., 7-6.
To start our trip to Indianapolis, Legend's Restaurant gave our team a ride in their party bus to Indy.
The girls were allowed to paint their names and District 14 Champions on the windows for every one to see on the trip down to Indy. We would like to thank every one for every thing they did for the girls to have a once in a lifetime experience in going to play for the state title.
