MARCELLUS – An Indiana man on a camping trip at Beech Grove Campground, 51439 M-40, drowned Saturday afternoon about 3:35 p.m. in Cass County's Mud Lake, Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported Monday.
Scott Michael Pace, 43, of Trail Creek, Ind., and his sons, ages 8 and 6, went for a swim off a small boat.
Pace failed to resurface.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office dive team, assisted by Marcellus Fire and Ambulance Service, recovered Pace's body shortly after 8 p.m. July 7.
An autopsy was to be performed in Grand Rapids to determine the precise cause of death.
It is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the drowning at this time, and the incident remains under investigation by the Cass County Dive Team.
The Sheriff's Office was also assisted at the scene by Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.
