14-year-old swim record falls at the hands of Bizoe

NILES – Matt Bizoe swam a flawless race Thursday evening to break a record set in 1993 by Dale Furst.
The 15-year-old swimmer from Niles set the pace early in his event to clock in with a 58.28 in the 100-yard butterfly in the 15U age group.
Bizoe also won the 200-yard individual medley.
The YMCA Mariner swim team won the dual meet over Michiana YMCA of South Bend (Ind.) 396-290.
This meet was the fourth in a series of six meets that are followed with a conference championship meet on July 21 in Niles.
With the season well under way, the Mariners are undefeated.
It was a successful evening in the pool for several Mariners.
Winning three events were Treyton Saladin (100-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle), Amanda Harlow (100-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle) Caitlin Dippo (100-yard freestyle, 100-yard breastroke, 50-yard freestyle) and Tyler Alexander (100-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle).
Saladin competes in the boys' 9-10 division, Harlow in the girls' 13-14 division and Alexander in the boys' 15 and over division.
Others winning two events were Lauren Kilgore (25-yard backstroke, 25-yard freestyle), Parker Saladin (50-yard butterfly, 100-yard individual medley), Allie Fuller (50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard individual medley) and Meg Curry (100-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley).
Kilgore swims in the girls' six and under division, Parker Saladin in the boys' 9-10 division, Fuller in the girls' 11-12 division and Curry in the girls' 15 and over division.
Winning single events were Alex Salisbury in the 50 butterfly (girls' 11-12), Hailee Rosol in the 100 backstroke (girls' 13-14), Michel Panama in the 50 backstroke (boys' 11-12), Elizabeth Panama in the 200 individual medley (girls' 13-14), James Norris in the 50 freestyle (boys' 9-10) and Patrick Monoghan in the 100 freestyle (boys' 11-12.
Also winning events were Adam Galaske in the 100 breastroke (boys' 15 and over), Charlotte Bizoe in the 50 freestyle (girls' 9-10), Kelly Bickel in the 25 freestyle (girls' eight and under), Andrea Bair in the 25 backstroke (girls' eight and under) and Morgan Altergott in the 50 backstroke (girls' 9-10).
The Mariners next meet is this weekend in Sturgis against the Stringrays.
