Niles’ Welch wins 34th Linnen-Jeffries tourney

DOWAGIAC – Alex Welch of Niles captured the 17-18 year-old division of the 34th annual Linnen-Jeffries Jr. Golf Tournament on Friday.
Welch shot 75 at Hampshire Country Club to defeat Lakeshore's Sam Bitterman, who shot 82.
Nick Horn of Niles took third with an 83, while Drew Steinke of South Bend, Ind. and Mathew Shull of Berrien Center were fourth and fifth respectively with rounds of 87 and 90.
Chris Waite and James Grosse, both of Lawton, were sixth and seventh. Tyler Toney of Buchanan finished eighth.
In all, 47 boys and girls participated in the event.
