NILES – The Niles Vikings wrestling team won the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference Individual Wrestling Tournament title on Saturday at Kalamazoo Central with a score of 217 points. Niles defeated last year's champion, Lakeshore, which finished with 194 points.
The Vikings had five individual champions on the day. Jake Glueckert (125), Todd Scansen (140), John Wreggelsworth (145), Ben Brandstatter (160) and Alex Zanders (171) all walked away with title victories.
Gleuckert decisioned Portage Central's Levi Stace, 5-0, Scansen decisioned Lakeshore's Jake Skivors, 6-3, Wreggelsworth pinned Portage Northern's Dave Loza at the 2:23 mark, Brandstatter decisioned Lakeshore's Eric Shirley, 7-1 and Zanders decisioned Mattawan's Nick Ballard, 3-2.
