NILES – About 400 students from Niles got a glimpse last week at careers during a career day at Lake Michigan College.
About 275 Ring Lardner Middle School students were in attendance, along with about 125 students from Brandywine Middle School, said Wayne Borr, assistant principal at Ring Lardner. Career day took place Friday at the Mendel Center and Upton Hall on the Benton Harbor campus of Lake Michigan College.
Six major career pathways were represented, Borr said, including human services, engineering and manufacturing, business management, natural resources, arts and communication, and health sciences. Students selected their two top career pathway interests online line about three weeks prior to career day, Borr added.
Two speakers representing two different careers were available at each career pathway presentation. Borr said Nicole Brooks, an on air personality for Sunny 101.5 of South Bend, Ind., was a guest speaker in the arts and communication pathway. Comedian Craig Tornquist used some of the students as participants in a big hair contest for females and a dance contest for males.
Rachel Zeider of Ring Lardner was the big hair winner, and Dustin Craig, also of Niles, participated in the dance contest.
