NILES – Local volunteers creating an ice rink in Niles are asking people to remain off the surface.
Niles resident and volunteer Larry Pickles said Thursday the 180 feet by 280 feet surface in Eastside Park has been flooded, and added it is critical no one attempts to walk on the ice. Doing so could leave sections of the rink bumpy and hard to skate on.
Pickles said volunteers will continue flooding the area for the next two days, and more if needed. Then, in the coming days and nights they will "fine tune" the area.
The skating rink at Eastside Park will be a free, public, but unsupervised activity.
