NILES – The 21st Michigan High School Football Coaches Association has announced the Academic All-State team for 2006. Twenty-nine student athletes automatically qualified for the First Team this year by scoring 295 or above on a 300 point scale.
Brandywine's Matthew Duckett was a special mention on this year's list, while the Niles and Brandywine football teams earned Academic All-State honorable mention honors in Division 3 and 6 respectively.
Other teams in the area earning recognition were Lakeshore, who had the highest G.P.A. in Division 3 with a 3.923. Mattawan had a 3.848, Sturgis had 3.765 and St. Joseph had 3.732 in Division 3.
In Division 4, Dowagiac was honorable mention with a 3.400, while Coloma had a 3.394.
