NILES – The Ring Lardner seventh grade Blue basketball team wrapped up a perfect season Tuesday with an emotional 43-33 victory over Discovery. The Vikings finish the season with a 13-0 record.
" This team really showed their character today. We were shorthanded on both ends of the court, playing without our starting center, but the rest of the team really stepped up their game and played with a lot of heart and emotion to close out the season undefeated. This is a very special group of boys and I am very proud of them," coach Steve Karsten said after the game. "Zach Fillwock really played big for us today playing in a starting role for the first time all season and playing a lot of minutes, he's a gutsy kid."
Karsten went on to say that Matthew McLaughlin has been the floor general all season and Tuesday he led the team on defense and offense, disrupting Dicovery's offensive flow and scoring 14 points to lead us in scoring.
Austin Parks scored 13 points and Logan Harpenau added eight to help seal the Viking victory.
