The No. 5 doubles flight consisted of each team's No. 3 and No. 4 singles players.
Dowagiac grabbed a pair of second place finishes as Ashley Smith fell to Vicksburg's Kati Downs (6-1, 6-3) at No. 2 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Tonya Scherer and Elizabeth Kolden lost to Vicksburg's Chelsie Hostetler and Cassie DeLisle (6-4, 6-1).
"Although we didn't have any champions, we did have two runners-up," Dowagiac coach Chuck Rubino said. "We did have a good effort from our team. We lost a lot of close sets. We just need to get over the hump when it comes to close matches."
The Chieftains will open up Wolverine Conference play today when it hosts South Haven at 4:30 p.m.
