CASSOPOLIS – Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his deputies handled a fatal accident on M-60, just west of Main Street, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 5:05 a.m. in Newberg Township.
The victim, 50-year-old Holley Penn of Three Rivers, was traveling west on M-60 when he swerved to avoid a collision with a semi and ran off the road.
When he attempted to correct himself he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into oncoming traffic and was struck by another truck traveling east. This truck was driven by Michael Bogue, 53, of Dowagiac.
Bogue was treated and released on scene and was wearing his seatbelt.
Penn succumbed to his injuries at the time of the accident and it appears that he was not wearing his seatbelt, deputies reported.
Newberg Fire and Ambulance assisted deputies on scene.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
Anyone with any information or was a witness to the accident are asked to contact the Cass County Sheriffs Office at 269/445-8644.
