Golfers finish sixth at invite

The Dowagiac varsity golf team placed sixth at the Centreville/Colon Golf Invitational on Tuesday.
The Chieftains shot 229 as a team at the tournament, which had a format of two scramble teams and a best ball team.
Kalamazoo Hackett was the overall winner with a score of 197. White Pigeon was second at 202, while Battle Creek Pennfield and Three Rivers tied third with a 214.
Sturgis finished fourth with a 225. Following Dowagiac was Constantine in seventh with a 230, Centreville in eighth with a 239 and Buchanan in 10th with a 270. Brandywine was scheduled to compete in the event, but did not.
Tanner Melvin and Mike Hoff shot 75 in the scramble portion of the tournament, while Richie Hutchinson and Jacob Miller shot 78.
The best ball team of Kevin Proshwitz and Nick Krizinski shot 76.
Dowagiac is back in action today as it travels to Richland to play in the Gull Lake Invitational. The tournament, which will be played on Gull Lake's West Course, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
