CASSOPOLIS - Lawless Park mountain biking marks its 10th anniversary June 25, Parks Director Scott Wyman informed the Cass County Board of Commissioners Thursday.
Racing officially starts at 10 a.m., he said.
The parks director also presented commissioners with copies of the new nine-county bicycling map.
Lawless Park, the county's largest, is located on Monkey Run Street, southeast of Vandalia. Take Lewis Lake Road south from M-60.
In another park-related matter, commissioners voted to allow $7,500 appropriated March 17, 2005, for local match for a state grant to instead be used by parks trustees for the horse trailer parking area at Russ Forest Park in Volinia, between Dowagiac and Marcellus.
Wyman said the money will be spent toward the final top course of gravel ($6,100), concrete in the shelter ($400) and rustic fencing to secure the parking area perimeter ($3,000).
This money had been earmarked for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant which was not approved, “but interest and enthusiasm for this project has continued,” Wyman said May 9.
The Parks Department has secured more than $10,000 in donations of materials, money and labor, with future donations expected.
