Rain or shine on Saturday, Niles will be all smiles.
Niles Community Schools will dedicate its new baseball facility at the high school campus Saturday at 10 a.m.
This project was totally funded by donations.
We would like to give a big “thank you” to all those who donated their money and their time to making this project a reality.
Among the major contributors that will be in attendance on Saturday will be Muhammad and Lonnie Ali, whose Box Entertainment helped fund the project. Also on hand will be representatives of the Detroit Tigers, whose owner Mike Ilitch's Charities for Children donated $55,000 to the project.
The theme of the ceremony is “yesterday, today and the future.” We encourage all former, current and future Niles players to attend the ceremony, which will be held indoors if need be.
It is nice to see a community get behind projects like this.
With tighter school budgets, things like field upgrades are usually put on the back burner until other projects that are of a higher priority are completed.
But the people of Niles got behind their baseball program and provided the Vikings with a field at the high school to play on.
They solicited donations and people responded.
We as a community should gather together on Saturday and honor those people who donated time and money to this project.
Following the dedication ceremonies, weather permitting, Niles will host a tournament.
We encourage those who attend the festivities to stick around and catch some high school baseball action.
Congratulations Niles for coming together and providing your community with another quality facility for its youth.
