I cannot even begin to explain how busy this weekend is going to be! There are an endless number of tournaments going on in the area, the Spring Fling is being held downtown and one of the biggest events is going to be the ceremony of the new Niles High School baseball field. Let's just hope the weather is nice to us!
This weekend is also Mother's Day! Flowers, gifts and cards have been flying off the shelves, all from children showing their love and appreciation for their mothers.
I am proud to say that I have been blessed with a very, very special mother. It took me a while to figure out just how lucky I truly am and I am thankful everyday for her and the things she has done for me. For those of you that don't know my mom, let me fill you in.
I wasn't the easiest child to deal with while I was growing up and I often made life very hard for my mother. I will be the first to admit that I was a big brat with a bad attitude! I never thought my mom was right, I lied to her all the time and said and did some very hurtful things – things that I wish everyday I could take back, but know I can't.
My mother has always been there for me when I needed her, (no matter how sick I thought I was) and attended all of my athletic and schooling events growing up. She has also been with me through some of the lowest points in my life and always assured me that things would get better. I believe her exact saying is, "This too shall pass."
No matter what the circumstance, my mother has always stood by my side and has helped me through everything, never once doubting me. If it wasn't for my mother's constant support, I couldn't have made it through anything. She believes in me and because of her I have found a way to succeed in life.
You see, my mother is really a very gentle person. She will strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and if you get her on the phone on a good day, don't make any plans for a while because she loves to talk – which is a good thing because I believe I got that from her! She isn't shy by any means.
She enjoys her flowers, her rock wall/garden (whatever it is) and sitting by the fire or going for motorcycle rides with my stepfather in the evenings. She also enjoys watching the deer from her kitchen window and the wild turkeys that often pass through the yard. She especially enjoys the company of her friends and family and the family's (deer)dog Buddy and goofy cat Midnight. I guess you could say she enjoys all of the little things in life.
My mom, like a lot of people, has had to face some very tough challenges in life. She has shown me how strong she truly is and what it means to stay positive, even when you're lying in a hospital bed with a gazillion stitches and nine broken bones. Yes, she was hit by a drunk driver. She has been faced with a few other challenges, but has made 100 percent recoveries through everything.
I would just like to thank my mother for putting up with me, staying by my side and showing me all of the steps to life. Some of my fondest memories as a child have come from her and I look forward to making many more (like when I grabbed the shoeflower thing or our 'weirdest things' moments). I couldn't have asked for a better mother and have been blessed with the best gift any daughter could ever ask for. Thank you, mom, for not only being the best mother, but for also being my angel on earth!
Happy Mother's Day! I wish all of the mothers days full of love and memories.
A Mother's Love
There are times when only a
Mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappointments
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a
Mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a
Mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith
And a Mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the Angels
And sent from God above…
