St. Joe posts two wins over Vikes baseball

NILES - St. Joseph posted two wins over visiting Niles Tuesday evening in Big 16 West Division baseball action.
The Bears won the first game 3-0 and the second 1-0.
In the first game, St. Joe scored all three of its runs in the third inning.
Jared Knuth took the win on the mound and also had a home run for the Bears.
Jake Ferguson suffered the loss for the Vikings. He had eight strikeouts and allowed no walks.
In game two, Drew Donohue suffered the loss. He threw six strikeouts and allowed two walks.
This Saturday, the Vikes will host their own invitational. The opening of the new high school field will also take place, with a few special guests in attendance. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremonies, which will begin around 10 a.m.
Junior Varsity
The Niles junior varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with St. Joseph Tuesday at Thomas Stadium.
Niles won a very exciting first game 2-1, but fell in the nightcap 6-3.
In the opener, Justin Stroud's single provided the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs.
Mike Simpson took the pitching win for Niles, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits. David Ralston came in for relief.
Top hitters were Sean Gordon with a double, single and one RBI and Andrew Brawley with a single.
In the nightcap, Taylor Robson suffered the loss at the mound. Robson had three strikeouts for Niles.
Top hitters were Simpson with a double and two singles, Gorson had two singles and one RBI, Robson had a single and a RBI and Nick Hartman and Brawley each had one single.
