Niles boy’s track team claims third straight West Division title

NILES - The Niles High School boys track and field team has left its mark … again.
The Vikings picked up their third straight Big 16 West Division championship Tuesday evening with a 125-38 win over Dowagiac.
The Lady Vikings also were victorious on Tuesday as they handed the Chieftains a 123-37 setback.
The boy's team was lead by junior standout Nick Shuck, who finished first in the 3200 meter relay, 1600 meter run, 800 meter run and 1600 meter relay.
Niles had plenty of team work. Isaiah Glaze, CJ Rumpf and Louis DelMuro each notched up three wins in their events, while senior Stephen Scally had two first place finishes.
The field events were well represented by Kurt Poehlman in the high jump, Paul Depoy in the shot and discus, David Davis in the pole vault and Quinten Murphy in the long jump.
Murphy finished first in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet-2. Poehlman had a height of 6-feet-5 in the high jump. DePoy finished with a 112-feet-1 throw in the discus and Davis had a height of 10-feet-6 in the pole vault.
In running events, the 3200 relay team took first place with a time of 9:37. The 800 relay team finished with a time of 1:34 and the 1600 relay team posted a time of 3:45.
Blaise Nsengiyumva finished with a time of 16.93 in the 110 hurdles. Glaze had a time of 11.58 in the 100 meter dash. Shucks had a time of 4:59 in the 1600 run and a time of 2:04 in the 800 run.
Rumpf had a time of 51.24 in the 400 meter dash. Del Muro had a time of 33.70 in the 200 meter dash and Stephen Scally had a time of 11:22 in the 3200 run.
First place finishers for the girls team were Ashley Austin, who had a throw of 34-feet-11 in the shot put. Ashley Roland had a throw of 101-feet-1 in the discus and Alex Ranft had a height of 4-feet-7 in the high jump for Niles.
The 3200 relay team finished with a time of 12:34. The 800 relay team had a time of 1:52. The 400 relay team tied dead even with Dowagiac with a time of 53.96 and the 1600 relay also took first.
Nicole Horvath had a time of 18.33 in the 100 hurdles. Kaylynn Stephenson had a time of 12.73 in the 100 meter dash and a time of 27.28 in the 200 meter dash. Sam Brawley finished with a time of 7:31 in the 1600 run,, 2:36 in the 800 run and took first in the 3200 run. Autumn Grayson had a time of 1:04 in the 400 meter dash and Rebecca Kirschbaum finished with a time of 53.92 in the 300 hurdles.
