Brandywine, Buchanan post 1-1 records at Bronson Tournament

NILES - Bronson was the scene for the Brandywine and Buchanan varsity baseball teams Saturday, where the Bobcats and Bucks each posted 1-1 records on the day.
Brandywine opened the tournament against host Bronson, but fell 5-4. The Bobcats had the lead most of the game, but the Vikings scored three unanswered runs in the seventh inning to claim the win.
Jake Harris suffered the loss on the mound for Brandywine. Will Coar also picthed for the Bobcats.
Ben Rast was the lone top hitter for Brandywine with a double.
In the second game, Brandywine rebounded and took a 7-2 win over Jonesville.
DJ Elrod went the distance for the Bobcats to earn his first win of the year at the mound. Cameron Ondresky provided the save.
Top hitters were Kevin Curran with a double, Eric Rush had two hits and one RBI and Dustin Zimmerman had two hits.
Buchanan opened the tournament against Jonesville and took a 12-5 win in five innings. The game was ended early due to the two hour time limit.
Travis Reith took his first win of the year on the mound for the Bucks, while Buddy Williams and Brent Ruff provided the saves.
Top hitters were Aaron Koziel, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs scored. Brenson Stroman went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a double and Tim Mosier went 1-for-2 with three runs scored.
In the second game the Bucks fell to host Bronson 5-0.
Perry Wahlstrom suffered the loss for Buchanan. T.J. Pike and Josh Mills also pitched for Buchanan.
Top hitters for the Bucks were Koziel, who went 1-for-2 and Evan Cauffman, who went 1-for-3.
Brandywine, now 3-2 on the season, will travel to Bridgman on Tuesday for its first conference game of the season set to begin at 4 p.m.
Buchanan, now 4-2, will return to the field today when it hosts River Valley. That game is also set for 4 p.m.
