LANSING - Applications for a college scholarship established by state Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks, and his wife Diane are now available.
Jelinek took a controversial pay raise several years ago and has annually offered it to high school seniors in his district.
The Jelinek scholarship program recognizes and awards high school seniors in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in their community, church or school.
Six $500 scholarships will be awarded to assist students in extending their education beyond high school.
The scholarships will be paid directly to the college, university or technical school when the candidate has completed a post-scholarship information form.
The Berrien Community Foundation will administer the scholarship program again this year and awards will be announced in the spring of 2006.
Applications are available in the high school guidance counselor's office or online at www.berriencommunity.org.
Click on Scholarships and then the link for the scholarship.
Applications need to be postmarked by March 8.
