NILES - Niles' varsity basketball team traveled across the border Tuesday evening to take on South Bend Riley, only to travel home with a 78-56 loss to the Wildcats.
Strong three-point shooting from Brandon Thomas, who nailed six on the night and led the team with 30 points, wasn't enough to lift the Vikes to a win.
Niles shot only 35 percent from the field, while Riley shot 53 percent.
Riley had three players score in double digits, Doug Jackson with 18, Tony Willis with 19 and Michael Taylor with 23.
Junior varsity game
Niles' junior varsity team also fell to Riley, 51-31, Tuesday evening.
Asaad Ali led the Vikes in scoring with eight points, while De'Von Brownlee had 16 for the Wildcats.
