Armed robbery starts new year

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Monday, Jan. 2, at approximately 6:18 p.m. at the Niles Township Family Dollar, located at 905 S. 11th St.
Based on the initial investigation, an unknown male entered the store, where he allegedly displayed a knife handle to the store clerk demanding money. Once the money was obtained, this suspect exited the store, where he was believed to have fled in a unknown vehicle towards Indiana.
Niles City Police Department K-9 assisted the sheriff's department, along with Michigan State Police Niles Post.
Suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 2 inches, heavy set, wearing black nylon sweat pants, with a gray zip-up hooded sweat shirt and wearing a white T-shirt underneath. This subject has 2 to 3-inch long hair, dread locks style, and was wearing a ball cap.
