NILES - Last week was a very successful one for a lot of area athletes. That's why we have four Athletes of the Week for Dec. 12-17.
Niles' Todd Scansen took first place overall in the 140-pound weight class at the Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Scansen was the only Viking to win in the championship round.
He defeated Decatur's John Burns, 7-4 for the victory and defeated three other wrestlers before claiming the win.
Buchanan's Hayley Burks had a strong performance against Dowagiac on Dec. 12
Burks served up nine of Buchanan's 25 points against the Chieftains and ended the night with nine kills.
Brandywine's Adam Simons took two wins by pins against Bangor and Gobles on Dec. 13 in the 189-pound weight class.
Simons also took second place overall in the 189 class at the Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Stephenson had a strong showing against St. Joseph and Paw Paw on Dec.14 , winning both of his matches by pins.
Stephenson also went undefeated at the Grant Team Invitational on Dec. 10, where he received his 100th career win.
