COLOMA - A 12-0 run early in the second quarter by Coloma broke open a close game as the Comets handed the Buchanan Bucks a 46-29 Lakeland Conference loss.
Buchanan's Marquis Hall finished with a game high 15 points but couldn't get any back up support on offense. Coloma, 1-1, 1-0, used a balanced scoring attack with Anthony Musgrove canning 10, Jeff Gargano 9, Kasey Weber 8 and Tyler LaVanway and Spencer Paulsen each pumping seven.
Entering the second quarter knotted at seven Buchanan grabbed a quick four point lead 11-7. It was at that point Hall picked up a foul and was tagged with a technical and the start of the 12-0 run to take over the lead began. Buchanan finished the first half down 19-13. "The run was disappointing," Buchanan coach Reid McBeth said. "Our kids were playing hard up to that point. It wasn't the offense at that point it was the lackadaisical defense for about three minutes in a row."
Buchanan was able to keep the game close trailing by five through much of the third quarter but couldn't get a score to put the pressure on the Comets. Coloma nailed one of their four treys of the night to end the third and head into the final eight minutes with a 28-20 advantage.
Buchanan falls to 1-2 and 0-1 in the Lakeland and will travel to Brandywine on Friday night to take on the Bobcats at 7 p.m.
