EDWARDSBURG - Sitting one day on his land behind the Gateway shopping center, the highest spot in Edwardsburg, Troy R. Treat got the idea for the name of his new apartment complex - Village Heights Apartments of Edwardsburg.
Treat expects some units to be ready to rent by mid-October.
Phase I of what Treat is advertising as "Luxury Living/ Small Town Surrounding," is nearly ready to go at 69009 Elkhart Road, Edwardsburg.
He is already, with the help of a Realtor, who just happens to also be his mother, Helene Treat, giving tours and taking applications from those interested in residing in one of the 38 units.
One-, two- and three-bedrooms units off Elkhart Road will be available, with large windows, security and 24-hour maintenance.
Eventually the units will have a walking path to do their laundry, shopping and when Treat's Legends restaurant opens in November, a nice place to eat.
He is offering short-term leases and some pet-friendly units. He plans garages to also be available for rent.
One- and two-bedroom units have one bath and are 924 square feet. The three-bedroom also has an additional master bath and is 1,204 square feet.
Phase III will be 56 three-story units.
Treat also continues to accept donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina at his Legends Motorsports. He has taken three trailer loads south.
He is also designing and donating a custom bike which will travel the rodeo show circuit, where members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association can buy chances to win it, with the money raised going to help first responders who lost much of their equipment and supplies.
