CASSOPOLIS - The Cassopolis Village Board were able to come to agreement at a special meeting last Thursday, approving not only the agenda, but also on paying the bills and acting on new business items.
"It look like it finally going to go," Village Manager Art Sciorra told the board about the long awaited Stone Lake Manor housing. They have received funding and expect to begin construction in November. The private concern is planning to build 49 senior units and eventually 49 family units.
Sciorra added that the people wanting to build on their lots on the south side of Stone Lake may also be closer to that end, as an engineering study is being completed.
The infrastructure will be turned over to the village by the contractor and building permits will then be issued to the landowners.
Do to faulty meter reader equipment, many people in the village experienced high water bills, as the amounts were estimated, Sciorra explained.
In new business, the board set the special election for Tuesday, Nov. 8, when the new village president and two trustees will be elected.
A settlement with the DEQ is also still being negotiated, with the attorney being instructed to give a counter offer of $11,500.
Some of that amount may be returned to the village in the form of a project related to the water quality in the village.
The board also agreed to pay Yeo &Yeo $1,163 for past services rendered.
Since the board never met in time to declare Sept. 17, 2005, as Mrs. Julia McGee Day, in honor of the resident's 100th birthday, the board instead agreed to have made a plaque in her honor.
