The Lady Eddies welcomed Bridgman Tuesday night as their home opening opponent, but the Bees proved to be too much down the stretch as they defeated the Eddies 51-42.
Heather Seyfred of Bridgman, a Miss Basketball candidate, gave the Bees an early 6-2 lead which was helped by several turnovers by the Eddies.
Eddies' Kristin Toney drained a three-pointer with under a minute to play in the first quarter that shrank the Bees' lead to only 8-7, but Bridgman led 11-7 after the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bees jumped out to a 25-16 lead halfway through the second quarter and held a 36-26 lead heading into halftime.
The Bees outscored the Lady Eddies 14-9 in the quarter.
Seyfred had 12 first half points for the Bees, while Toney of Edwardsburg netted seven.
The Lady Eddies began their comeback in the third quarter.
Nikki Focht hit a three to narrow the lead to 34-26 with 2.9 seconds to go, but Seyfred canned two free throws to give the Bees a 36-26 at the end of three.
Bees opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to open up a 41-28 cushion.
A Nikki Focht bucket was the beginning of an Edwardsburg 8-2 run late in the fourth quarter to make it a 10-point deficit, 49-39.
A Late bucket by the Bees sealed their victory.
Seyfred led all scorers with 30 points, while two other Lady Bees finished with nine.
Eddies were led by Toney with nine points and Julie Harness with seven.
The Lady Eddies fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Lakeland Conference play. They now travel to Brandywine on Thursday and will return home again Sept. 13 for a three game home stand.
