CASSOPOLIS - Barn Swallow Theatre of Cassopolis is presenting an original children's play entitled "Unsung Holidays" on July 7, 8, and 9 at 8 p.m. and closes with a matinee on July 10 at 4 p.m.
The play is directed and was written by JoAnn Boepple of Edwardsburg and features a group of neighborhood children who are spending their vacation time putting on vignettes to celebrate events of each month of the year, not normally recognized by days off work, and national acclaim.
Young people from the ages of six to 13 who live in Edwardsburg, Cassopolis, Vandalia, Goshen, Ind., and Bristol, Ind., will entertain you with their versions of celebrities ranging from the Andrew Sisters, Beatles, Elvis, Christopher Columbus, Thomas Edison, The Statue of Liberty, and other events in history.
Boepple is a former member of the Board of Governors of Barn Swallow Theatre and has directed several plays at the Barn. This is the first revue that she has written for children but, she has written several for adults that have been performed in Tampa, Fla.
She asserts that working with children is a lot more fun than cleaning house and washing dishes. She is a former middle school principal, writes a weekly newspaper column for the Edwardsburg Argus and volunteers at the Edwardsburg Historical Collections Museum.
Laura Maddox is the musical director of the play and has also directed many children's plays for Barn Swallow. She is a member of the Board of Governors for Barn Swallow.
The play is being presented in the auditorium at Ross Beatty High School on Diamond Cove Road, Cassopolis.
Tickets are available at the door for $6 for children and adults. Call Carol Senger at (269) 445 2511, or Marj Federowski at (269) 445 9016 for reservations or more information.
