NILES - The Niles area will soon have its very own taxi service, as Al Parsons opens Niles Taxi, at 6 a.m., on July 1.
Parsons added that he not only wants to provide a service to the Niles community, but he also wants to provide safety to the community as well.
Niles Taxi will service Niles, Niles Township, Buchanan, as well as the South Bend Regional Airport.
When the business gets up and running and things are in full swing, Parsons hopes to have four cars running per shift, depending on how steady business is. Each person who calls for service, will be picked up at their location within 15 minutes of placing that call.
Parsons a Boston native, who was in the Air Force for 24 years, has been in the transportation business for 20 years.
Parsons choose to headquarter his business in Niles Township rather than the city. This is because the township didn't have as strict of rules about opening a taxi service and did not have set fees Parsons would have to charge his customers, he said.
