YMCA summer place for kids

Keeping your child active during the summer months is very important. It not only keeps them in shape, but it keeps their minds active and away from the television all day.
The Niles-Buchanan YMCA offers a wide variety of summer programs to keep your kids happy and healthy through their summer vacations.
Right now, the YMCA is holding Summer Day Camps for children ages 6-14.
From June 27-July 1, will be soccer camp. This week will be spent learning how to play soccer and working on perfecting your skills and learning strategies.
All camps will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. You may still sign up for these camps by calling the YMCA at 683-1552.
The tennis camp for grades 4-6 will be held July 11-22 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Niles High School tennis courts. During this session introduction to the game of tennis will taught.
Participants will learn many fundamentals and drills needed in the game of tennis along with time for fun games.
The camp for grades 7-8 will be Aug. 1-12 from 10 a.m.-noon at the high school tennis courts.
Spots are still available for the 4-6 grade camp and the 7-8 grade camp. Contact the YMCA for more information.
The YMCA T-Ball and Pony Leagues have been around for years and are the starting point for future area athletes. Games are played at the open fields next to Ring Lardner Junior High School on Monday and Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 p.m.
Children are taught by volunteers and learn the basics and fundamentals of the game of softball.
Looking to keep yourself active? The YMCA also offers an Adult CO-ED Slow Pitch Softball League. League play is already under way and games are played at the softball field behind Michiana Christian Assembly on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
