Cass drops pair of summer games to open season

Cassopolis faced host Mattawan on June 14 with the home team winning 9-2 in the opening game.
P.J. Smith was on the hill for Cass giving up nine runs on six hits with four walks.
Offense for Cass was supplied by Jason Rietveld and Jake McDonald, both with doubles.
In the second game, Rietveld took the lose 3-0 giving up one unearned run.
Rietveld left the game after 2 innings with what was thought to be dehideration. Mike Degraff and Andre Broussard finished the game in relief, giving up just one run each.
T.J. Gill threw a no hitter for Mattawon.
On June 16 Cassopolis opened up at home against Three Rivers.
Three Rivers won the first game, 17-1.
McDonald pitched pretty well for Cass giving up six earned runs on 11 hits, the problem was that Cass made six errors that were directly responsible for the additional 11 runs.
The second game was a bit more exciting as Three Rivers won 6-5 in extra innings.
Taking the loss in relief was Jonathon Foster.
The game was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation.
In the first half of the first extra inning, Cass took the lead 5-3, Rietveld led off the inning with a base hit, Matt DeGraff reached on a walk and they both scored on Mike DeGraffs two-run double.
Three Rivers came right back in its half of the extra frame to tie the score at 5-5.
In the second extra inning, Cass had the bases loaded but could not score.
Three Rivers pushed a run across in its half of the inning to take the win 6-5.
