NILES -The Portage Hurricanes, a 14 and under girls fastpitch softball travel team based out of Portage, MI, recently attended the Miami County Memorial Day Weekend tournament in Peru, Ind.
The "Canes", the only Michigan team in the tournament, faced teams from Indiana and Illinois.
With three intense, down to the wire games, the Canes stayed tough to make it to the championship game, where they faced the Elkhart Softball Club
Canes took Elkhart with a 9-0 win sweeping the tournament 8-0. The Canes also scored 59 runs for the weekend, only giving up 14 to their opponents.
The Canes will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Bellville for another tournament.
