NILES - Niles' Kayla Gross and Brandywine's Matt Wieger have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athlete's of the Week for May 29 – June 3.
Gross, who is an infielder for the Vikings softball team, has been a key player offensively, leading her team at the plate in most of the games this season.
Last week when Niles hosted Buchanan, Gross had a triple and two RBIs to help lead the Vikes to a 10-4 victory.
Wieger, who fell just short of breaking the school record for most stolen bases in a season, also led his team offensively when the Bobcats hosted Three Rivers last week. Wieger, who plays shortstop, had a triple and a single against the Wildcats and stole his 44th stolen base during the game.
In April 2006, each senior Athlete of the Week winner from all three sports seasons will submit an application for a scholarship.
Spring sports athletes will be eligible for the 2006 Athlete of the Year Scholarship.
