NILES - The Optimist Noon Club and the F.O.P.' s annual Ice Cream Social teamed up for the third straight year this past weekend to hold a fun day for area children.
The Optimist Club held a baseball/softball skills contest where contestants competed to see who could run the bases the fastest, hit the ball the farthest and much more.
There were also other events such as a watermelon seed spitting contest, a penny scramble, home run derby, Inter-team games held throughout the day and the Major/Minor League coaches played against the Minor/Little League coaches, which is always a big hit for the players.
The home run derby and the dunk tank are also huge hits with the kids and are held at the end of the day.
This fun filled day was put together by the Optimist Club, Scott Glick, President of the FOP League and his wife Eileen, Lori Zimmermam, David Morse and many others.
The events are held every year in June and everyone admits it continues to grow each and every year.
