Niles Athletic Camps offer summer fun

NILES - Don't waste your summer sitting in front of the television or frying yourself in the sun. Instead, get active and learn the fundamentals of your favorite sport. Not only will you have a great time and learn a lot of new things, but you will be taught by the high school and junior high coaches.
Niles High School will be offering 11 athletic camps for elementary and junior high kids this summer. All of these camps will be held at Niles High School or surrounding areas.
Boys/Girls Basketball Camp
The boys and girls basketball camp will run from June 13-17 from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp will be located in the main and auxiliary gyms at the high school. This camp is for students in grades 4-8 only and will be run by boys varsity basketball coach Denny Parks and girls varsity basketball coach Jim Arnold.
Football Camp
The football camp will be held June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on the high school practice football field. This camp will be run by head football coach Dave Janicki and his staff.
This camp will be a non-contact camp for students in grades 3-8. The focus of this camp will be on fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork and acedemics.
Soccer Camp Session 1
The soccer camp session 1 will be held June 20-24 and is directed by varsity soccer coach Denise Peters and staff from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants in this camp are children grades K-8. This camp will be held in the open fields by the tennis courts at the high school.
The emphasis of the camp will be on the fundamentals of basic soccer skills with applications in scrimmages.
Volleyball Camp
The volleyball camp will be held from June 27-30 from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. for grades 3-6 and from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for grades 7-8.
This camp will be directed by varsity volleyball coach Jami Foster and staff in the main and auxiliary gyms of the high school. Camp emphasis will be on the fundamentals of volleyball with game applications.
Wrestling Camp Session 1
This camp will be taught by Jr. High wrestling coach Tom Deseburg and staff from July 11-15 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Participants in this camp are children grades 3-8. The emphasis of the camp will be on takedown fundamentals of wrestling.
Running Camp
The running camp will be held from July 18-22 and wil be taught by head girls' cross country coach Dan VandenHeede at the Niles Amphitheater at Riverfront Park. The camp will run from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Fundamentals of running and an opportunity to run in a 5k race will highlight this camp.
Cheerleading Camp
Bring out the cheerleader in you! This camp will be held for one day only on June 18 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the main gym at the high school. This one day camp will be headed by varsity cheer coach Katie Miller and staff and will be offered for children grades 1-8. The fundamentals of cheerleading will be taught along with a performance at the conclusion.
Tennis Camp
The tennis camp will be held from July 25-29 under the instruction of varsity boys and girls coaches Rob Babler, Jill Weber and staff from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
This camp is offered to students in grades 3-8 and will focus on the fundamental skills of tennis. The camp will be held on the high school tennis courts.
Soccer Camp Session 2
The soccer camp session 2 will be held from July 11-15 at the open fields by the tennis courts at the high school. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon and wil be directed by varsity soccer coaches Jerry Holtgren and staff.
Participants of this camp will be children grades K-8. The emphasis of the camp will be on fundamentals of basic soccer skills with applications in scrimmages.
Wrestling Camp Session 2
The session 2 wrestling camp will be directed by Jr. High wrestling coach Tom Desenburg and staff from July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Participants in this camp are children in grades 3-8. They will be taught escapes, reversals and pins.
Spots are still available in all of these camps. Don't miss this chance at working with some of the best coaches in the area.
