NILES - At the Niles Community Schools Board of Education on Monday evening the board approved the recommendation of Superintendent Doug Law to name Jim Knoll the new principal at Niles High School.
Knoll is currently the assistant principal at Ring Lardner Middle School.
Knoll is a life-long Niles resident and after working almost seven years at National Standard he returned to school to get his education degree.
Law added that the district is extremely pleased with Knoll's experience he has obtained at assistant principal at Ring Lardner and at Edwardsburg Middle School.
Knoll will officially take over the position on July 1, replacing Betty Perkins.
Knoll added that it's really all about the students, and he hopes he can have a bigger impact on the students as principal.
Knoll has started working closely with Perkins, who is retiring at the end of the school year, to learn the ins and outs of the job.
Law added that Knoll will face some challenges with the new position, but Perkins has left the school in good shape, which will allow Knoll to hit the ground running.
