Cassopolis’ Gordon regional champ

Cassopolis' Kelsey Gordon was a three-time regional champion Friday night at Gobles High School as the Lady Rangers finished fifth.
Lawrence won the girls' regional championship with 78 points, edging runner-up Lawton by three points. White Pigeon finished just eight points back of the Lady Tigers with 70 points.
Host Gobles was fifth and Cassopolis sixth with 56 points.
Gordon captured the high jump, 400-meters and was a member of the Lady Rangers' 1,600-meter relay team.
Gordon jumped 5-feet-2 in the high jump and posted a time of 1:00.26 in the 400-meters.
Gordon was joined by Fortune Boykins, Sara McIntyre and DeeDee Hawkins on the winning relay team which posted a time of 4:14.71.
Hawkins finished second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:29.81, while Boykins was third in the 100-meters with a time of 12.57. McIntyre finished third in the 400-meters with a time of 1:03.21.
Cassopolis' 400-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 54.28.
The top two finishers in each event, plus those who qualify by time, distance or height will advance to the state finals June 4 in Grand Rapids at Houseman Field.
Boykins was an additional qualifier in the 100-meters, as well as Hawkins in the 800-meters and McIntyre in the 400-meters.
Cassopolis scored just eight points in the boys' regional as E.J. Harris finished second in the 100-meters with a time of 11.16.
Gobles won the meet with 101 points. Lawton was second with 94 points and Mendon third with 50 points.

Division 3
Brandywine's Michelle Smith captured the Division 3 pole vault regional championship Friday evening at Constantine High School.
Smith cleared 8-feet-3 to edge Edwardsburg's Linda Phillipson and Constantine's Stevie Bowen, who tied for second with a height of 7-9.
The Lady Bobcats finished with 10 points as Smith was the lone placer.
Kalamazoo Christian took the girls' championship with 112 points. Parchment was second with 84 points and Bangor third with 72.5 points.
Buchanan finished with eight points.
The top two finishers in each event, plus those who qualify by time, height of distance, advance to the state finals held June 4.
Other area placers in the girls' meet were Buchanan's Lindsey Borr who was fourth in both the 400- and 800-meters.
Edwardsburg's Ricquelle Allemon was second in the long jump, while Stephanie Koontz was third in the long jump and Erin Eggleston was fourth in the 100-meters and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Edwardsburg's Evie Tafunai was fifth in the 400-meters.
The Lady Eddies were fifth in the 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter relays.
Bangor won the boys' meet with 136.5 points over Lakeland Conference champion Berrien Springs which finished with 113 points. Host Constantine finished third with 76 points.
Brandywine finished with eight points.
The Bobcats' Kyle Perry was third in the pole vault with a height of 12-feet.
Brandywine's other points came via a fifth place finish in the 3,200-meter relay.
Other area placers were Edwardsburg's Doug Shuttleworth in the high jump. Shuttleworth was second with a height of 6-2.
Edwardsburg's Derek Eden was third in the 100-meters and qualified for the state meet with a time of 11.3.
Edwardsburg's David Daniels was third in the 110-meter high hurdles and sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
Also placing for the Eddies were James Greenfield, who was third in the 1,600-meters; Chris Hayes, who was fifth in the pole vault; and Tony Hayes, who was fifth in the high hurdles.
Edwardsburg was also fourth in the 3,200- and sixth in the 800-meter relays. The Eddies finished fifth in the 1,600-meter relay.
