Vikings softball team receives much needed wins over Tigers

NILES - "Winning ugly" is how Niles softball coach Jim Arold described his Niles softball teams two wins against Benton Harbor Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Vikes, now 10-22 overall, took only a three run win in the first game 12-8 and a much improved 16-0 win in the night cap.
Julie Kater was the winning pitcher racking in a career high 13 strike outs. Kater is now 6-14 at the mound.
Kayla Gross led the way offensively going with a double, single and a RBI, Kate Whittaker gave Niles two RBIs, Nicole Ignowski added three RBIs, Shelly Aurand had a double and Karly Kennedy added two singles for the Vikes.
Niles swept the Tigers 16-0 for a much more comfortable win.
Carly Gordon picked up her first win of the season on the mound for the Vikings.
Gross again led Niles on offense with a double and three RBIs, Stephanee Schrader and Lindsay Carey both had a double and two RBI"S and Whittaker added a single.
The Vikes will face the Bobcats at 4 p.m. today at Brandywine High School.
