NILES - Like many Americans who are looking to lead a much healthier lifestyle, the members of the SMCAS ambulance service have decided now is the time for change.
Beach added that they have challenged area fire, police and EMS departments to participate in this activity and so far the Niles City Fire and Bertrand Fire departments are going to participate.
They are encouraging others to also participate in this challenge.
Each of the people who is participating has set a goal for themselves and will weigh in each week.
Even those who may not need to lose weight, but could improve their lifestyle by quitting smoking, are participating.
If they do not meet their goal then they will have to put a dollar in the donation bucket and at the end of challenge the funds raised will be donated to the Toys for Tots organization.
The group is planning on running the program until July and if this one is a success then they plan to do it again next year.
