Hearings adjourned in murder case

CASSOPOLIS - Two preliminary hearings in Cass County's 4th District Court were adjourned on Thursday for two Kalamazoo area men held in connection with the murder of a Bloomingdale man whose remains were discovered on March 4 near a Cranberry Lake Road residence in Marcellus Township.
Charged with the death of Joshua Alton McCreary, 25, of Bloomingdale, who was allegedly shot and burned in what appeared to be linked to methamphetamine manufacturing and trafficking, are Travis James Schmid, 22, of 9111 N.27th Street, Richland, and Robert William Richards, 31, of 8622 Newhouse Street, Portage.
Schmid faces charges of open murder, felon in possession of firearm, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (three counts) and fourth-offense habitual offender.
Richards faces charges of open murder, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and second-offense habitual offender. Both face life or any term of years if convicted.
Preliminary hearings will be rescheduled at a later time.
