Saturday is going to be a busy day around Niles. That's all I can say. I know my day is booked with things to do.
Everyone loves parades. Especially when they involve kids. No matter which side of town your on, you'll be sure to see a bunch of Little League baseball teams marching down the streets for the start of opening day ceremonies.
The FOP Little League Baseball teams will start its parade at 9 a.m. They will start at French's Field and march to FOP park with a police and fire escort leading the way. After the parade, the games begin starting at 10 a.m. A chicken and sausage dinner will also be available throughout the day.
Howard Township's Baseball League will have a parade beginning at 10 a.m. running from K &G Marine to Pepper Martin Park.
Following the parade the league will have its Opening Ceremony followed by a full day of baseball, playing a total of seven games in all.
Their chicken dinner fundraiser begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. or until the chicken runs out. Which I am told it is so good that it usually runs out before the posted time.
Brandywine Cal Ripken Baseball League will hold a parade at 9 a.m. starting at Brandwyine High School and marching to Fireman's Youth Park.
The day will be jampacked with baseball games where all teams will have a chance to play a 45 minute game just for fun.
If 9 a.m. is too early for you, you can check out the Niles softball team. The Lady Vikes will host Watervliet at 12 p.m. at Vella Park.
Niles has been struggling quite a bit lately and hope they can pick up a much needed win against the Panthers.
If you're not in the mood for any ball games, tomorrow is the last day White's will ever open again and they are holding a retirement party for Ray Gouldman.
Gouldman has been an employee of the alley since 1955. He has already retired from other work, but, as Lance White said in a recent interview, his retirement will become official when White's closes its doors.
If you would like to attend the party, which will run from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., please RSVP with the alley.
No matter where you're at tomorrow, you won't be bored. And if you are sitting at home bored, go check out one of these events. You won't be disappointed!
