EDWARDSBURG - With a Lakeland Conference doubleheader scheduled for today, Edwardsburg didn't exactly throw its best stuff at visiting Niles on Thursday.
The result was a sweep for the visiting Vikings in a non-league doubleheader.
Niles won the opening game 6-3 in eight innings and then took the nightcap, 13-0.
Niles (10-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two innings of play in the first game, however, Edwardsburg scored twice in the bottom of the third to grab the lead.
The Eddies upped their advantage to 3-1 in the fourth before Niles scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh to tie it up.
The Vikings scored three times in the eighth to earn the victory.
Corey Coquillard (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Matt Richardson started for the Vikings.
Steve Clanton went 3-for-5, while Rick Storm was 3-for-4 for the Vikings. Adrian Davis was 2-for-5, while Lyle Watson was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Monty Ort (0-2) took the loss. Edwardsburg was led offensively by Ben Horton who was 3-for-4 with a double.
In the nightcap, Jesse Sallak (2-1) took the mound victory.
Josh Henry was 2-for-2, both doubles and three RBIs. Davis and Coquillard also doubled.
Jeff Mortimer took the loss for the Eddies.
